Mr. Westbrook, died February 21, 2011. 

Dr. Douglas Calvin Westbrook was born on August 21, 1927, to B. F. and Ruby (McCauslin) Westbrook in Gandy, Louisiana.  He grew up in Provencal, Louisiana where his church family, and friends were vital to him.  After graduation, Doulgas attended Northwestern State College where he majored in music.  Douglas started his graduate studies and earned his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Music.  Douglas taught music and was the high school choir director for more than twenty years in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  Douglas continued his studies at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earning his doctorate of Education.  In 1970 he accepted a job at the University of North Texas as a Professor of Secondary Education, where he taught until his retirement in 1988.  He retired as the Dean of Education.  Douglas was a husband of 60 years, a father, brother, friend to hundreds, an educator, musician, a lover of all things beautiful.  His kind smile, Southern drawl, impish humor and brilliant mind will be dearly missed by many.  Douglas is survived by his wife Audrey, daughters Melodye Westbrook Martin, Cindy Westbrook Dooley and his son Lane Westbrook.  He leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.  A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Denton.  Visitation will be held immediately after the service.  Memorials may be made to the Credo Choir or the Searchers Class at the First United Methodist Church in Denton.
