Obituary from The Natchitoches Times, Friday, June 5, 1998:

Dwayne Champion Gilbert, 74, died at home after an extended illness Wednesday, June 3, 1998.

M. Gilbert was born in Fanin County, Texas, September 24, 1923, the son of Felix and Ethel Champion Gilbert.  He had been a resident of Natchitoches since 1953.

Mr. Gilbert was a retired professor of industrial technology at Northwestern State University.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy Air Force.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Natchitoches.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Graves Gilbert; two daughters, Linda Sue McKee and her husband, Howard, of Pineville, and Sarah Lou Biggs and her husband, Mac, of DeRidder, and six grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 5 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Dr. Scott Shaver and Dr. James Carter officiating.  Burial followed at Memory Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Woody Cox, Tommy Dunagan, Tom Eppler, Donald Rawson, Lisso Simmons and Charles Wommack.
